The Strategic Plan is the rudder that steers your business boat. Few will argue that steering is not a good thing. The debate heats up around when we need to steer ..... before or after we get forward momentum.
If you are in the camp of "before" you will write your Strategic Plan before your business is even launched.
But often, small business owners, don't really see the value of a Strategic Plan until they are moving forward ..... quickly with no real idea of which direction they are going.
Or worse yet, they running before a big wind, realizing that their business, and perhaps even their life, is going in a direction they didn't intend and don't even like.
Here's a question to identify the need for a Strategic Plan. Do you -
- Have a business to support a lifestyle?
- Have a life just to support serve your business?
I think we all start out with the intention of "1" but often end up stuck in "2".
If that's the case with you, and your business,?need a Strategic Plan.
Like all systems, you can make it complex or simple. Either way, it's the system that will help you to plot a course and stay on it. It's the system that will bring your "business life" into balance with your "whole life".
Like most things business, there are many options available to you for developing a Strategic Plan. There are options for the "do it yourselfer". Or this is an area where any good Business Coach has something to teach you.
I am convinced that either way, simple or complex, you have to start with your "whole life" and then align your business with that.
The left column is where you get your thoughts straight regarding your Primary Aim. Then everything to the right of that is aligning your business to support that Primary Aim.?
Fight the tendency to skip or rush thru the left column and this approach will give you a Strategic Plan with both great clarity and detail. And yet a third option,?that ends up with ?word based plan but includes some pretty detailed instructions on what to do to build it.
I realize that this is alot of work piled on to an already full plate, for most small business owners. But I absolutely promise you that the clarity it will bring you is stunning and well worth the effort.
I have often thought and even said aloud, that coaches "give away what ... but sell how".?
If you have read and absorbed the contents of my many posts on "systems". But have not yet implemented them in your business, you probably need to buy some "coaching help".?
I bring this up now, because, of all the systems that we have talked about, Strategic Planning is the one that you are most likely to need help with.
Some of you are blessed with the discipline to get it done alone.
But if you aren't and don't know where to find the help you need with this or any of the systems I have described, give me a call (303-664-1633) or drop me an email (imprints.louisville@gmail.com).
I would be happy to introduce you to people who can get you where you want to be. Abd let you decide from there if that is something that you want or need to buy for your business or yourself.
These systems really are the 6 cornerstones of a happy, healthy business. You really do need them ..... all of them.
